The Flag is Mine Too and It's Time to Fly It High!

It’s time for Canadians to dig the flag out of the closet and start flying it again. The Canadian flag has been associated with a protest with which many did not agree but I submit, that we can agree that the current threat to our sovereignty by the 47th in the US is more cohesive than the “Freedom Rally” was divisive. Flying our flag again may confuse some truchers but the flag belongs to all of us. Certainly, Canadians can all agree that we are, without a doubt, the best Country in the world, and we have no intention of lowering our standards by joining the US. If however, they would like to join us we might consider it as long as their current leaders don’t come with the package.

When I considered thumbing my nose at someone flying the flag yesterday when I noticed the flags on the pickup truck were new, I wondered if they were revisiting an old battle with new garb or if they were making a statement about our current situation.

People around me have been making loud noises about buying Canadian and not vacationing in the US as have I. The real power still belongs to the people and while it may take a while for some to figure out that the reigning oligarchs are not the friends of the people, those of us who have figured it out need to take matters in hand and make as much noise as we can.

Getting information on the new media channels is difficult but we are finding our way around it. Maybe we need to reinstitute the use of ink and paper, to tell the truth and cement our values. Perhaps we need to create a new form of underground railway to help people in peril. Perhaps we need to raise leaders who are the likes of Bonhoeffer, Martin Luther King and other “enlightened despots” to fight the fight.

Whatever it takes Canada let’s lead the charge with a flag we are all proud to stand under.
